Prequalifier Concludes in Lahore

LAHORE: Muhammad Naveed, Wakeel Khan, Shahnawaz and Majeed Hussain advanced to the qualifying round for the Pakistan International Squash Circuit 2004 on Sunday (May 2nd). The two-day qualifying round for the $12,000 event begins at the Punjab Squash Association (PSA) Complex on Monday (May 3). The main round of the event commences on Wednesday.
While the other three matches on Sunday were one-sided affairs, Majeed Hussain beat Farzan Rashid in an exciting 69-minute encounter 17-15, 15-14, 12-15, 10-15 and 15-2. Majeed won a hard-fought first game 17-15 and annexed the next 15-14. A determined Farzan came back via steady attacking squash to win next two games, knotting the score 2-2. However, in the last game Hussain proved to have the better fitness and outlasted Rashid in a final frame that wasn't even close.
