3 FROM PAKISTAN, ONE FROM HONG KONK QUALIFY [main draw]

LAHORE: Naveed Atlas, Zubair Ali Khan, Shamsul Islam of Pakistan and Wal Hang Wong of Hong Kong qualified for the main round of the Pakistan International Squash Circuit 2004 after winning their qualifying round matches at the Punjab Squash Association (PSA) Complex in Lahore.

In the first qualifying round, pre-qualifier Shahnawaz (PAK) pulled a shock 17-14, 15-17, 15-8, 15-11 victory over No 1 seed Kashif Shuja (PAK) .

In the most closely contested match of the day, Naveed Atlas won a close four game contest over Muhammad Ilyas in which each game was closed fought.

The two non-Pakistanis in the qualifier ended up facing each other in the final qualifying day. Wong of Hong Kong scored a 15-10, 15-11, 11-15, 15-12 victory over compatriot Roger Ngan in 51 minutes.

Zubair Ali Khan beat Shahnawaz 10-15, 15-13, 15-9, 15-8
Shamsul Islam beat Basit Ashfaq 15-7, 15-7, 15-12
Naveed Atlas beat Muhammad Ilyas 15-8, 7-15, 15-10, 17-15
Wal Hang Wong beat Roger Ngan 15-10, 15-11, 11-15, 15-12.

First Qualifying Round on May 3rd:
Shamsul Islam beat Wakeel Khan 15-11, 15-9, 15-10
Shahnawaz beat Kashif Shuja 17-14, 15-17, 15-8, 15-11
Zubair Ali Khan beat Muhammad Ateeq 15-4, 15-6, 15-8
Naveed Atlas beat Majeed Hussain 15-5, 15-12, 12-15
Basit Ashfaq beat Amir Atlas Khan 15-13, 15-10, 15-8
Roger Ngan beat Muhammad Naveed 15-6, 15-12, 15-7
Muhammad Ilyas beat Mamoon Rasheed 15-11, 15-1, 15-14
Wal Hang Wong beat Ashfaq Hussain 15-9, 15-12, 15-3.
