Galvez & Sanchez Score Semi-Final Slots In Evolution Open

Unseeded Eric Galvez and qualifier Mauricio Sánchez maintained the Mexican momentum in the new PSA Tour event in Mexico City by reaching the semi-finals of the Evolution Squash Open - but did so in contrasting styles.

Galvez, aged 20 from Puebla, swept to 15-7 15-4 15-2 victory over Canadian qualifier David Phillips in just 29 minutes - whilst Sanchez, who reached the quarter-finals after a shock win over top-seeded Australian Cameron White, took more than an hour and a half to overcome Jorge Baltazar 15-13 17-15 6-15 15-9 in the first ever win over his fellow countryman.

Sanchez now faces Frenchman Laurent Elriani, the third seed who defeated a seemingly nervous Hungarian qualifier Mark Krajcsak 15-10 15-7 15-13 in 46 minutes.

The other semi-final will be a contrast between new and old world styles. It will feature the electric attacker Galvez, a quarter-finalist in last year's World Junior Championships in India, against European Junior champion Dylan Bennett. In a match influenced by Bennett's consistency and speed, the second-seeded Dutchman beat England's Duncan Walsh 15-4 15-13 15-13 in 41 minutes.
