Even though the Individuals portion of the Pan Am Federation Cup had not even been completed as of this morning, the Teams event has already begun in the highly compressed five-day format being pursued at the host Maya Country Club in El Salvador.

The U. S. men's team, seeded third after placing three of their entrants in the quarter-final round of the Individuals, is in a pool with Venezuela, Argentina and Costa Rica. They had no trouble today in their meet with Venezuela, whom Julian Illingworth, Christopher Gordon and Jamie Crombie dispatched in peremptory straight-set fashion.

Despite the absence of the two top U. S. players, Latasha Khan and Meredeth Quick, both of whom lost tonight in the round of 16 of the Carol Weymuller Invitational in Brooklyn, the American women, featuring Louisa Hall (the only U. S. semifinalist in the Individuals), Carlin Wing and Ivy Pochoda, are seeded first in the Team event. They were given a bye today and will compete against the two other teams in their round-robin bracket, namely El Salvador and Argentina, during tomorrow's action.

Men's Recap

USA Def Venezuela 3-0
( Julian Illingworth d Herman Marino, 9-2, 5 and 1; Chris Gordon d Francisco Valecillo, 9-0, 0 and 0; Jamie Crombie d Ernesto Uscatequl, 9-1, 0 and 0)
