Canadians have split fortunes as Berg advances by Razik falls SATURDAY OCT 6, 2001 The DARE Santa Barbara Open, organized by the PSA's Robert Graham, has gone to a new format this year --- focusing on developing PSA stars rather than a few tour luminaries. Instead of Simon Parke, Martin Heath or Chris Walker, the fireworks have been provided so far by the popular young Canadian Viktor Berg from Edmonton. Berg has mowed through Malaysian prodigy, Mohammed Azlan Iskandar, in five tough games and the strong English pro Bradley Ball, en route to a semi-final berth across from England's Hadrian Stiff. Stiff reached the semis via an hour and a half battle against Canadian Shahier Razik. Then, Berg and Stiff played another long battle, with Viktor Berg emerging the finalist after one hour and 3/4 on court with Stiff. RESULTS: DARE Santa Barbara Squash Open, Santa Barbara, USA Semi-finals: Viktor Berg (CAN) bt [7]
