Trinity
Faces Pressure at #1 From Harvard, Yale
The College Squash Association released it's 2004-05 North American preseason men's team and individual rankings on Friday, Oct 1st, and as expected defending Men's national champion Trinity College (Hartford CT) starts out the year as number one. Trinity, however, has lost several key team members to graduation and only time will tell the extent to which their incoming freshmen recruits, Sahil Vora, Neil Robertson, and Eric Wahwa, can fill their shoes. Meanwhile, both Yale (preseason #3) and Harvard (preseason #2) stand to have improved lineups and both teams can be expected to be putting strong pressure on Trinity this winter. An early indicator this year will be the upcoming Ivy scrimmages at Yale, which although not officially counting in the season's standings will give some clues as to the strength and depth of the Harvard and Yale lineups.
Navy (preseason #15) and Williams (preseason #9) have both had good recruiting years and will be looking to parlay their increased manpower into their national positions. In the individual rankings, Princeton's Yasser El Halaby (preseason #1) still appears the man to beat at the top of the tables. Ryan Donegan, who had a disappointing end-of-season fade, looks to improve on his #8 preseason position, and Harvard's Sid Suchde and Ilan Oren both appear hungry to and capable of moving up the rankings table.
