HARRIS, BOSWELL and FITZ-GERALD LEAD EDGBASTON PRIORY TO 2001 NATIONAL LEAGUE TITLE

Edgbaston Priory, in a close and exciting team match, defeated Lexden to claim the 2001 England National League Title.

Playing first for Edgbaston was Sarah Fitz-Gerald, who capped a busy week in which she started in Egypt (winning the WISPA Grand Prix Final), moved on to Cardiff (Winning the Welsh Open) and then easily took her league match 3-0 against Kate Allison 9-1, 9-0, 9-0. Next up, Lexden's Lee Drew and Tony Hands won (over Joey Kemp and Lee Drew, respectively) giving Lexden a 2-1 lead. Next on was the number one match, pitting Edgbaston's world # 18 Del Harris scoring a big win over world #3 David Evans 3-0.

With the match at 2-2 the decider pitted Edgbaston's Stewart Boswell (world #14) against Lexden's Lee Beachill (world #16). Boswell took the match 3-0 to give Edgbaston Priory the crown for 2001.
