First Round Main Draw:
The 1999 AON Lakeshore Classic continues.
#1 seed, Paul Price (16) beat Renan Lavigne (43): 17-15, 15-8, 15-6.
#6 seed, Stephen Meads (34) beat qualifier Scott Handley (49): 3 games 2. In an exciting match, Scott lead 2 games to 1, before falling in the fifth.
#3 seed Mark Cairns (25) beat Rodney Durbach (51): 17-16, 15-10, 15-4.
Qualifier Anthony Ricketts (45) beat #5 seed Tony Hands (28): 15-10, 15-6, 15-11. First upset of the tournament, things are starting to get exciting!
#8 seed Olli Tuominen (36) beat Kelly Patrick (52): 16-17, 15-3, 15-6, 15-14. In a heart stopping fourth game, Kelly lead 13-9 before calling set 1 at 14 all. Play continued for an eternity, with a number of long do or die rallies ending in at least 4 lets! The crowd wanted a fifth game, but it was not to be.
Qualifier Shahier Razik (80) beat #4 seed Juha Raumolin (33): 13-15, 15-8, 15-6, 15-8. The second upset of the tournament.
#7 seed Lee Beachill (38) beat wild card Tim Long (228): 15-12, 15-6, 15-12. Talking to Tim later, he mentioned that he wished he had the match on tape. Two games at 15-12 makes your really wonder what you were doing wrong.
#2 seed Byron Davis (29) beat qualifier Ville Sistonen: 15-11, 7-15, 15-9, 15-12.
I would like to thank the pros, both players and referees. We have had great matches; with little of the poor sportsmanship we have had in the past in Chicago. THANKS! |
