RESULTS: Women's Heliopolis Squash
Open, Cairo, Egypt Top seeds Leilani Joyce, of New Zealand, and Carol Owens, from Australia, cruised through the quarter-finals of the $30,000 Women's Heliopolis Squash Open in Cairo without dropping a game - and look set to meet in their second WISPA World Tour final in Egypt in six days. Joyce, the world No2 from Hamilton and runner-up in 1999, claimed her second successive straight games win in five days over England's former world junior champion Tania Bailey, beating the 20-year-old ninth seed from Stamford in Lincolnshire 9-3 9-7 9-4. Owens, originally from Melbourne but now based in Auckland, New Zealand, conceded the same number of games overcoming compatriot Rachael Grinham, the 14th seed from Queensland, 9-7 9-6 9-1. Germany's sixth seed Sabine Schoene scored the upset of the day, fighting back from 2-1 down to beat England's fifth seed Natalie Grainger 10-9 3-9 8-10 9-5 9-4 in their first meeting on the World Tour since playing daily exhibition matches against each other on the recent WISPA promotional tour of the Caribbean and Central & South America. In her first semi-final appearance after reaching the Heliopolis quarter-finals for the past three years, the world No6 from Parsdorf, near Munich, now faces event favourite Leilani Joyce.
