THACKER TRIUMPHS IN ANTIBES
England's top seed Janie Thacker, playing in her first event since May, beat
fellow Yorkshire squash player Cheryl Beaumont 9-5 9-2 9-3 in the final of
the Women's Antibes Open in France to celebrate her third WISPA World Tour
title success this year. The 23-year-old former European Junior Champion from
Wath-On-Dearne, near Rotherham, won the Danish Open title in February, then
clinched the Winterthur Life Challenge trophy in Hong Kong in April. Thacker's
straight games final victory in Antibes over her 20-year-old opponent from
Batley - she failed to concede a game throughout the tournament - is certain
to improve on her current world ranking of 31 in the end-of-year WISPA list.
