WISPA Carcassone Open, France-- FAVORITE DAUGHTER STOEHR BARELY FALLS TO SUE WRIGHT

From WISPA 5/6/2000.

England's second seeded Sue Wright twice had to come from behind before defeating France's unseeded Isabelle Stoehr 8-10 9-6 4-9 9-3 9-2 in the final of the Women's Carcassone City Squash Open in France to claim her 10th career WISPA World Tour title.

It was a characteristically gutsy performance from the 29-year-old former world No. 3 from Aylesbury - and an impressive one from her 19-year-old opponent, the 1997 world junior finalist from Tours, who was appearing in her maiden WISPA Tour final.

Wright had made the journey from England to the southern France city by train - as a mild recurrence of the viral pneumonia which kept her out of action for most of last year is preventing her from being able to fly.

Final:
[2] Sue Wright (ENG) bt Isabelle Stoehr (FRA) 8-10 9-6 4-9 9-3 9-2

Semi-finals:
Isabelle Stoehr (FRA) bt [1] Senga Macfie (SCO) 9-0 9-3 9-1
[2] Sue Wright (ENG) bt [7] Madeline Perry (IRL) 9-3 9-6 9-4

[1] Senga Macfie (SCO) bt [Q] Annelize Naude (RSA) 6-9 0-9 9-8 9-2 9-6
Isabelle Stoehr (FRA) bt Agnes Muller (SWI) 2-9 9-6 9-2 9-2

Great women's squash videos have just been made available: The Eye Group has produced the complete Women's British Open Final in a well filmed, well produced, and interesting contest. Jean Delierre has made available a video of the 1992 Women's World Open final between legendary Susan Devoy and (at the time) up coming Michelle Martin. Devoy won the match and retired that same day.
