Iskandar enters last eight of Pakistan squash

By Dawn Online ISLAMABAD, Nov 18 - Malaysian junior Azlan Iskandar stormed into the quarter-finals of Pakistan Circuit-IV Squash Tournament when he toppled fourth seed Shamsul Islam of Pakistan 3-2 here at PSB Squash Complex on Saturday.

Azlan who has improved his ranking from 102 to 95th during the current month created the upset of the day by overwhelming one of hosts top ranked player. Shams who is 63rd in the world struggled against the Malaysian junior during the five game battle before succumbing 13-15, 15-7, 12-15, 15-13, 15-17 in 69 minutes.

By virtue of this triumph Azlan has set up his quarter- final fixture against top seed Aijaz Azmat of Pakistan. Azmat ranked 41st internationally scored the quickest win of the day when he brushed aside qualifier Naseem Tahkali in straight games 15-1, 15-9, 15-3 taking 21 minutes.

In the opening first round match Pakistan junior number two Arshed Iqbal Burki fought five game tussle against qualifier Ritwit Bhattacharya of India eventually winning 12-15, 17-16, 7-15, 15-8, 15-12.
