Zaman, Azmat in final of Squash Circuit-IV

By Farhana Ayaz ISLAMABAD: Second seed Mansoor Zaman had no difficulty in beating seventh seed Matt Jenson in straight games to enter the Pakistan Squash Circuit-IV Tournament final against top seed Aijaz Azmat who disposed off third seed Mohammad Illyas 3-1 here pre-finals at PSB Squash Complex on Monday.

The Aijaz-Mansoor final will be repeat of the Circuit-I tournament held at Lahore in September where the former piped the latter. Mansoor had the upper hand during the Circuit-III tournament at Karachi where he beat Aijaz in the pre-finals. Aijaz on the other has shown better record facing Mansoor in the finals, apart from winning the Lahore event, the top seed defeated Mansoor during the finals of Kuala Lumpur Open 2000.

Here in the first pre-finals Mansoor Zaman ranked 49th needed just 27 minutes to roll over Australian Matt Jenson 15-8, 15-7, 15-10. Jenson ranked 78th had no answer to the game plan of left-handed Zaman who displayed an array of classical shots during the contest.

In the second semi-final, top seed Aijaz Azmat conceded a game in his 3-1 win over third seeded fellow-Pakistani Mohammad Illyas. Aijaz breezed through the first two games before Illyas fought back to make 2-1 by winning the third game. However, the challenge failed to match the aggression of the 42nd ranked top seed who secured the triumph in 55 minutes. The final scoreline was 15-7, 15-4, 12-15, 15-10.
