WORLD SQUASH NEWSSUPER SERIES OPEN-AIR SQUASH EVENT : Final results.
Friday 14 May Final: 3rd place play-off: NICOL WINS HIS FIRST SUPER SERIES FINALS TITLE Scotland's British Open champion Peter Nicol claimed the prestigious Super Series Finals title for the first time tonight (Friday 14 May) when he beat Egypt's world No. 3 Ahmed Barada 15/8 9/15 15/9 15/11 in the final of the $50,000 Equitable Life Super Series Finals at the Broadgate Arena in the City of London. Nicol, the 26-year-old world No. 2 from Inverurie, was in a defiant mood during this climax to the PSA Tour's leading events of 1998, determined to make amends for the loss of his world No1 title earlier this month to Canada's world champion Jonathon Power. After leading throughout the opening game, Nicol let the 22-year-old from Cairo take over in the second as his touch seemed to desert him. The roles were reversed again in the third game as the Commonwealth Games gold medallist charged ahead, maintaining the pressure through to the fourth and his memorable title win in 59 minutes. Earlier, England's British National champion Paul Johnson, the 26-year-old world No. 4 from Bromley in Kent, scored his second successive victory in the tournament over the new world No. 1, coming back from a game down to beat Jonathon Power 12/15 15/8 15/8 in 49 minutes to win the play-off for third place.
