DAY
ONE RESULTS FROM MAMARONECK Results: D. Walker
defeated D. McNeely 9-5, 9-1, 9-7
On the newly sprung courts at Westchester Squash, in Mamaroneck, NY, the top seeds in both pools quickly defeated their opponents. Although Walker had to come back from 6-2 down in the third game, both players appeared comfortable against their opponents. Preston Quick won a long first game 9-7 lasting 35 minutes, with both players exhibiting to the audience their ability to reach almost every ball on the court. After a particularly long rally at 7 all, after Wyant had come back from 7-4 down, he failed to reach a drop at the front and soon lost the first game. The second game lasted 10 minutes and despite a 3-0 lead in the third, Wyant was not able to capitilise on his lead as Quick showed a good ability to kill the ball on a hot court and won the game 9-6. The last match of the night was the longest match with River squeezing past Karlen in the fifth game (only saw a bit of this match as I was refereeing on the other court). The crowd to watch the matches included many juniors who are currently at camps in the area, and friends of USA Squash. Mike Callaway |
