Winners: Carol Owens over Rachel Grinham, Anthony Ricketts beat Billy Haddrell

[Final report in Malaysia Star Online] [Quarter final report in Malaysia Star Online]

Australia ruled supreme in the YTL Open in Kuala Lumpur at the weekend, after Australians distinguished all Malaysian interest in the quarter-finals before going on to dominate both the men's and women's finals.

While Melbourne's top seed Carol Owens followed up last week's Kuala Lumpur Open success by capturing the women's title with a 4/9 9/3 9/4 9/5 win in the final over No2 seed Rachael Grinham, the men's event also went to the underdog, Anthony Ricketts, over Billy Haddrell.

Top-seeded compatriot Billy Haddrell duplicating his frustration in the Malaysian Open, losing to fifth seed Anthony Ricketts, 15/10 15/9 15/6.

First Round: Malaysia's Nicol Davis for second successive week advances in WISPA tourney

Within a week of reaching the final of a WISPA World Tour event as a qualifier, 15-year-old Malaysian schoolgirl Nicol David has qualified for the first round of the YTL Squash Open in Malaysia.

Today she dismissed Finland's 8th seed Kia Paasivirta 9/0 9/1 9/0 in Kuala Lumpur to become the only unseeded player through to the quarter-finals - where she will face top seed Carol Owens, the world No10 from Australia who beat her in last week's Kuala Lumpur Open final.

In the men's first round, qualifier Wael El Hindi, the 19-year-old world junior open finalist from Egypt, upset Hong Kong's 2nd seed Abdul Faheem Khan 15/8 15/10 15/12.
