Hyder Trophy Tournament (May 14-16 1999) Annual Tournament, New York City USA
The Hyder Tournament is the longest-running international softball tournament in the USA. The Tournament is returning home to its original home, the New York Athletic Club, with its newly converted squash facility. This tournament was created by Dr. Quentin Hyder, a squash enthusiast who can be viewed as the "father" of softball squash in the USA. Not only did Quentin relentlessly pursue the enthusiastic pursuit of the international game in the USA, he also convinced Harry Saint, original builder of the first commercial squash clubs in the USA, to install the first international court in the USA in the heart of New York city in the late 1970's. That started the relentless and gradual shift to softball in the USA. |
