Smart Squash: How to win at Softball
by Austin Francis
Online Price US$ 16.95

ORDER ONLINE NOW or get more details at Amazon.com This is, regrettably, a quick "make-over" of a good book on hardball squash into barely acceptable book on softball squash. For the beginner, it would be a confusing mixture of the two. For an observer, some of the quotes from pros are revealing as to the gaps between the softball and hardball traditions remaining in the USA. [Ron Beck]
Keep Eye on Ball is Most Important One Thing I tell You
By Chris Widney, 1992
US$ 9.00, (20% discount)
ORDER ONLINE NOW or get more details at Amazon.com editor Chris Widney combines the teachings of squash legend Hashim Khan with the drawings of artist Richard Pitts in order to unravel some of the mystery behind this game that no one can seem to explain or stop playing. Play to Win: Squash. By Malcolm Willstrop. 1987 Octapus Books. Out of Print. Malcolm Willstrop, a former high-level player and a highly regarded coach, has put together a valuable guide to winning squash. The book contains many ideas and well organized programs that will enable players at any level to devise a program of improvement. [Ron Beck]
Heather McKay's Complete Book of Squash. 1977. MacMillan of Canada Out of Print. Heather McKay, arguable the best woman squash player ever, penned this all-around guidebook to squash. Although somewhat dated, this book offers good fundamental advice, both in terms of stroke development as well as training, drills, and game tactics.
Tackle Squash by Jonah Barrington with John Hopkins, 1976 Out of Print. This small paperback provides the unique tool of a series of "flip through" photos that show Barrington executing all the basic squash shots. As you flip through the pages, you see the shot "in motion". [Ron Beck]
Barrington on Squash by Jonah Barrington, 1973 Pan Books Out of Print This is a classic volume, though small and compact. For each stroke and element of the game, Barringto provides not only the technical aspect but his thinking (which derived largely from Nazrullah Khan) on how to implement. The real jem, though, is the succession of "Barrington's Brutal Battles" recounting some of his most memorable matches from his point of view. [Ron Beck]
Geoff Hunt on Squash by Geoff Hunt. 1974. Cassell London Out of Print. Geoff Hunt, who has had a successful post-world-champion career as coach at the Australia Institute of Sport, provides here an early view of his coaching ideas. It is a book, though 25 years old, that is full of good ideas for your squash game, especially regarding the mental side of the game. One year later than the above book, it is a counterpoint to Barrington's view. [Ron Beck]
Fit for Squash by Steven Seaton and Ian McKenzie. 1991 Out of Print Here is a guide to developing fitness and flexibility for success at squash. This book was prepared approximately a decade ago, and fitness and flexibility concepts have advanced significantly during that time. The value, though, is the specific treatment of activities for squash. [Ron Beck]
Newer Angles on Squash. R.B. Hawkey. 1973 Faber & Faber Out of Print
Squash: The Better Way to Play by Ted Millman. 1976. New English Library Out of Print

This is an extremely interesting autobiographical book by Victor Niederhoffer. Victor was dominant in North American squash in the mid 1970's. Victor was always an interesting and indefineable figure in the squash world. His book is interesting as well. Although mainly about his investment business, it touches on the lessons he took from the worlds of competitive squash and tennis into the rest of his life. A fascinating book [Ron Beck]

The Complete Book of Squash by Dick Hawkey. 1978. Hyperion Out of Print.

This book is a hybrid: part squash history, part description of the state of the sport in the late '80, part instructional - mainly instructing coaches. This book has two interesting historical chapters - one, a brief history of the sport in the UK, the second a comparison of the various great champions - comparing, for example, Hashim versus Barrington, Hunt and Hiscoe.[Ron Beck]

The History of Squash Rackets by John Horry. 1979 Webb Publishing Out of Print This book contains a wealth of information about the early history of squash; but fails to bring it alive.
