surf citySan Diego squash is growing and getting more ambitious. The Southern California squash program that received a big boost two years ago through former PSA star Chris Walker's involvement, has kicked off its "Surf City Squash" urban program hiring Renato Paiva.

This give Surf City Squash a most definite East Coast College Squash Connection, with Surf City's chairman, Rick Sharpiro, former head coach of the Tufts Unversity squash program, hiring as executive director Renato Paiva.

After an extensive search Surf City Squash has selected an executive director to lead and develop their urban squash program in San Diego.  Renato Paiva has enthusiastically accepted the position.  Renato comes to Surf City from Harvard where he has served as the assistant squash coach and squash director of Kidsquash.  A native of Brazil where he received his B.A, in Business Administration, Renato was a top ranked world junior player who brings his passion, knowledge, leadership, and organizational skills to the program.

Surf City Squash will commence the squash portion of the program with their partner school, The Preuss School, in March with a 16 week initial program.  Plans to add the academic tutoring and community service programs along with the squash will start in August 2007.

Their fundraising campaign continues with the goal of securing the space adjacent to San Diego Squash.  The 8,000 square foot facility would serve as the headquarters for Surf City Squash, containing classrooms, offices, and meeting rooms, as well as 2 more singles squash courts and the first hardball doubles court in Southern California.
