Perry through to semis; Kenny Bows Out

[Men's Main Draw]     [Women's Main Draw]

Ireland's Madeline Perry produced a stunning display to reach the semi-finals of the Cannon Kirk Homes Irish Open at Fitzwilliam.

After a shaky first round display on Wednesday the world number 14 looked much sharper as she eased past Delia Arnold from Malaysia three games to nil in just 27 minutes. The Banbridge girl is going for her fourth successive Irish Open title but she is up against it this year with top seed Vicky Botwright currently ranked eigth in the world. Botwright however was made to work in her quarter final beating Mexican Samantha Teran 3-1 in 50 minutes. Perry will gain confidence from today's display and having been ranked as high as six in the world. She will hold no fear as she faces second seed Alison Waters at 7pm on Friday.

Waters, who has been playing on all cylinders as of late, had no difficulty with New Zealand's Jacklyn Hawkes, winning in straight games.

On the men's side Ireland's last remaining male, Liam Kenny, bowed out of this year's Cannon Kirk Homes Irish Open as he lost to Malaysian third seed Mohammed Azlan Iskander. Kenny, world ranked 54 put in a very respectable performance against the current world number 13. The pair shared the first two games producing some gruelling rallies and excellent drop shots. After winning the third game 11-4 Iskander finished out the match to take it 3-1 after 66 minutes.

Iskandar now faces second seed England's Adrian Grant in the semi-finals. The pair meet regularly on the professional circuit and it always proves a close encounter. Defending champion Alex Gough also looked in good nick as he beat Australia's Aaron Frankcomb in straight sets to book his place in the semi finals. He will meet top seed John White of Scotland, who put out qualifier Tom Richards.
