White and Iskandar Advance to Mens Finals

Irish interest in the Cannon Kirk Homes Irish Squash Open  at Fitzwilliam LTC in Dublin ended last night (Fri) when three times champion Madeline Perry was beaten by No 2 seed Alison Waters from England. Waters won the first two games before Perry found her form,  winning the third game and only slipping up when the scores were six apiece in the fourth. Waters went on to win  the game 9-6 and take the match. In today's final (4pm),  she plays England's Laura Lengthorn-Massaro who took out top seed Vicky Botwright, also England, in straight sets.

Lengthorn, whose squash has been extremely strong since the outset of the 2008 campaign, wasted little time blasting her way past a tentative Botwright.

Men's No 1 seed John White, representing Scotland, emerged unscathed from his entertaining match with last year's champion Alex Gough from Wales. Gough lost the first set 11/3 but then fought back to take the next two, setting up a thrilling decider. White will face Malaysian player Mohd Azlan Iskander for the title later today (5pm). Iskander beat No 2 seed Adrian Grant of England in his semi-final, with a marathon third game which Iskander won 15-13, effectively deciding the match.
