Top seeds work to reach Flowerbulb Final
Orla Noom and Lauren Siddall will contest the final of the Squash Hillegom Flowerbulb Open 2008 in the Dutch city of Hillegom. Second seeded Noom had to fight hard in the first semi final to see off the challenge of South Africa’s Adel Weir. The 23-year old Dutch international saved a game ball in both the first and the second game, before overcoming the spirited resistance of her Qatar based opponent with a 12-10, 12-10, 11-7 score line.
Siddall, the event’s favorite, needed four games to dispose of Kylie Lindsay from New Zealand. The English girl quickly won the first game, but had to leave the second to the ‘Kiwi’. However, from the start of the third the world number 38 regained the initiative and never relinquished her dominance over an opponent who had to dig deep yesterday in her quarter final match against Dagmar Vermeulen: 11-2, 11-13, 11-3, 11-6.
Today’s climax will be the third WISPA final this year for Noom, the world’s number 41, who clinched the Prague Open title last month and lost out in the final of the Eurosafe Solutions Zwolle Open 2008 in April. Siddall will play in her second tour final in 2008. In February she had to succumb to Dutch champion Annelize Naudé, who conquered the inaugural Flowerbulb Open in 2006, during a WISPA Tour 8 event in France.
