Natalie and Shelley Advance in Texas Openers     [THE DRAW]

FIRST ROUND
Top Seeds Natalie Grainger and Shelley Kitchen advanced in first round action at Houston, Texas, which saw all of the top seeded players win.

Qualifiers Georgina Stoker and Karen Kronemeyer put forth stiff competition for Dominique Lloyd-Walter and Laura Lengthorn-Massaro, respectively, but both eventually fell short.

QUALFYING FINAL

Alana Miller of Canada advanced to the main draw, though the first game of her contest with Heba El Torky was very closely contested. El Torky had a large lead and a game ball at 8-5 before losing 6 straight points. In the second and third games the more experienced Miller volleyed more and didn’t allow El Torky to get into her rhythm.

Dutchwoman Karen Kronement also faced a testing first game againt Laura Mylottte, as she had to recover from 4-7 down. Wonderful racquet from Kronenmeyer dominated the second game and she brought it up even further in the third as Mylotte pushed her with some very long and intricate rallies.

Georgina Stoker's win over Canadian Tara Mullins was the best match of the tournament up to that point and was much closer than the score indicates. Stoker retrieved beautifully and responded to all of Mullin’s shot making.

Joelle King of New Zealand dominated her match against part-time pro player Runa Reta, outdoing the intrepid Canadian with hard hitting.
