AN OPEN LETTER FROM MAJ MADDEN

Dear Jeannie,

Congratulations and thanks on completing your term as Chair, BOD - just saw your editorial in Squash Magazine. Who will take over as new Chair? Looking forward to his/her initial vision/commentary on where US Squash is headed, why and how.

Jeannie, for my education and information as a US squash member for the past 30 years, could you kindly let me know how the new US Squash Board members were nominated and selected for this coming year, 2009/10

I found a source on the By Laws which stated:

ARTICLE IV
MEETINGS OF THE MEMBERS
Section 1. Annual Meeting. There shall be an Annual Meeting of the Members of this Association to be held in either the first (1st) or the second (2nd) calendar quarter of each year as the Chair of the Board shall determine. The purpose of the Annual Meeting shall be to elect Directors duly nominated by the Board upon recommendation by the Nominating and Governance Committee to fill any vacancies on the Board as of, and to be effective, July 1 of each year, as well as to consider any other business brought before the membership in accordance with these By-laws. The time and the place of the Annual Meeting and any special meeting of the Members shall be fixed by the Chair of the Board. Notice of each Annual Meeting of the Members shall be published prominently on the official website for the Association, in "Squash Magazine" or any equivalent publication of this Association. The website posting or other notice shall not take place less than four (4) weeks prior to the date of the meeting.

I do not recall seeing any prominent notices posted on the official website or in Squash Magazine? Did I miss these? Who were the Chair and members of the Nominating and Governance Committee? How did they solicit, compile and present nominations from the squash member community?

Where was the Annual Meeting held? How many members attended? Who was on the new slate to replace the current Board below? How long is a term of office? How many consecutive terms can a Board member serve? Are there any on the current Board who have served more than the maximum allowed? What was the result of the vote?

What were the other items on the Annual Meeting Agenda? Were the external auditors reappointed? Seems they made a substantial dollar mistake in the FY 2008 IRS Tax Return to June 30, 2008? For which year have the latest financial statements been prepared and audited (FY 2007/08)? Where can US squash members obtain copies.
