Program Director:

CitySquash seeks a full-time Program Director starting September 2007. This person will oversee the day-to-day activities of CitySquash, an after-school program with an annual budget of $500,000, 6 full-time staff members and 75 elementary, middle and high school students. The Program Director will organize the program’s weekend schedule, coach at weekday squash practices and at weekend practices and tournaments, meet regularly with team members and their parents, and work closely with CitySquash’s Executive Director Tim Wyant. The Program Director will also assist with the short- and long-term development of CitySquash—fundraising, developing relationships with CitySquash donors, and working on the organization’s plans to build a squash and academic facility in the Bronx. The Program Director position affords one the unique opportunity to develop management skills and help build a growing non-profit organization while developing national caliber junior squash players and changing the lives of at-risk youth.

Schedule: During the school year, which runs from September through mid-June, the Program Director will typically work full days on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday, and two-thirds days on Thursday and Friday. Sundays are off except during weekends when there are tournaments, of which there are 10 a year. During the summer, the Program Director works Monday-Friday and there is no weekend work. Over the course of the year, approximately two-thirds of the Program Director's time will be spent coaching at practices and at tournaments; one-third will be spent doing administrative work and planning in the office. One weekend in every four, the Program Director will not be required to work and will be free to play in tournaments her/himself, if desired.

Program Description: CitySquash is an after school youth enrichment program based in the Bronx at Fordham University. The mission of the program is to help our team members fulfill their potential as students, athletes and people. In the fall, CitySquash will begin its sixth year of operation and serve 75 elementary, middle and high school students from low-income families in the Bronx. Each year the program welcomes 5 fourth graders and 10 sixth graders to the program and makes selections based on academic, athletic and character criteria. Currently, CitySquash’s middle school students have an academic average of 85%. CitySquash has placed fifty percent of its first three classes of middle school students into private high schools, including St. Paul’s, St. George’s, Williston Northampton, Canterbury, Salisbury, Loomis Chaffee, Hill, St. Pius V, Avon Old Farms, Mercersburg, Westover, Hackley, and Trinity-Pawling.

Vacation: The position includes 6 weeks of vacation annually: 1 in December, 1 in April, and 4 in the summer.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and extensive experience in squash are required. Knowledge of Spanish helps.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range: $35,000-$48,000. Includes full health-insurance coverage.
