Position: Squash Coordinator

Founded in 1996, SquashBusters is the first-ever youth program to use squash as a vehicle to improve the lives of urban middle and high school students. SquashBusters is a non-profit organization that combines squash with intensive academic tutoring, community service, cultural enrichment and school counseling to help its student-athletes strive toward excellence in their lives. SquashBusters currently works with 90 ethnically diverse students in the Boston Public School system in a state-of-the-art facility on the campus of Northeastern University.

SquashBusters seeks a passionate, reflective, detail-minded, and goal-oriented squash instructor to select, lead, and teach squash to a team of 30 boys and girls.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, supervise, and direct intensive and creative weekday afternoon and Saturday morning squash practices throughout the school year for 30 students
  • Administer fitness program and evaluate student fitness gains
  • Recruit, coordinate, train, and manage volunteer coaches for each practice
  • Participate as volunteer in each weekday homework tutoring session
  • Coordinate a variety of summer squash opportunities for students
  • Participate in all community service projects and field trips
  • Organize and coach kids in tournament play, private school matches, and league competitions
  • Manage SquashBusters’ equipment inventory and budget line items, i.e. team uniforms, tournament expenses, instructional materials and trips
  • Build relationships with each individual student in the program and their families through constant communication, including making evening and weekend phone calls, conducting student and family functions, and in-person meetings at students’ homes
  • Assist in implementation of program evaluation as it relates to squash; collect data including fitness tests, match and tournament results, SquashBusters attendance, and volunteer and parent surveys
  • Drive students from their schools to practice four times each week
  • Help plan and lead team trips and cultural outings
  • As a member of an expanding organization, work on varied projects as requested

Candidate Requirements

SquashBusters seeks a high-energy, hard-working person with strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with a BA/BS or higher degree preferred. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate excellent critical thinking, have the ability to cultivate high-level relationships with children, take initiative, and who believe deeply in our organization's mission. The ideal candidate must have a thorough knowledge of the game of squash and a demonstrated passion for making a difference in the lives of urban youth. Applicant must hold a current driver’s license in good standing. A readiness to work most Saturdays throughout the school year is essential.

Position: FULL-TIME

Compensation: Commensurate with experience, plus benefits.
