Mexico and Australia
in the mens... Mexico's Moises Galvez mowed down New Zealand's
Callum O Brien in the finals of the Junior Olympics Under 19 division. Fellow
Mexican, Jorge Balthazar, took home the fifth place prize as he reigned in
the feed in consolation, after just barely surviving an all out struggle with
Taft School's Eric Wadhwa, 10-9 in the fifth game.
In the
Under 17 division, Jhie Gough was dominant throughout the event cruising home
to a three game win in the finals. Jhie's victim in the round of 32, highly
regarded Dylan Bennett from the Netherlands, gained a measure of respect by
fighting through to a nifty fifth place overall finish by winning the feed
in consolation.
Maqbool the Pakistani
future?
Adil Maqbool made a long trip
for a small boy, well a long trip for anyone, and came away with a very impressive
sweep through the boys under 13 draw.
The New York prodigy Emily Park came a
long way but faltered to Emily Maine from Philadelphia in the girl's under
13.
Michelle Quibell overcomes
Alexandra Pearson The womens under 19, always a fascinating
contest between the top five USA juniors, this time came down to Atlanta's
Quibell and Philadelphia's Pearson in the finals. Amy Gross lost to Canada's
Jacqui Inward in the quarters while Kate Rapisarda drew Pearson's quarter
and lost there.
Pearson and Quibell, who yesterday
had withstood the Canadian challenge to reach the finals, joined a battle
which is likely to resume at succeeding major events this winter. This time,
Quibell stood strong at the end.
