Ninth seeds Canada and tenth seeds USA will compete in the quarter-finals of
the Men's World Junior Team Squash Championships after triumphs over
higher-seeded nations in the final qualifying ties in Chennai, India.

Canada, who finished in second place in Pool A behind unbeaten title-holders
and top seeds England, confirmed their place in the last eight with a 2-1 win
over eighth seeds Wales, with second string Brian Ernst achieving the
breakthrough for Canada with a nail-biting 9-6 8-10 8-10 9-5 9-3 win over
Welshman Jethro Binns.

The key tie for the USA was a 2-1 win over seventh seeds Netherlands, in
which American No1 Julian Illingworth followed up his 'giant-killing' success
in the individual event with a 10-8 6-9 9-6 9-0 over the Dutch No1 Dylan
Bennett, recent winner of three European Junior circuit titles. After
Netherlands squared the tie in the second match, their third string Tom
Hoevenaars took the opening game against Nicholas Chirls, but the American
came from behind to secure the second, then run through the rest of the match
without losing a point to win 3-9 10-8 9-0 9-0 and claim a memorable victory
for the delighted USA team.

The unluckiest team were 11th seeds New Zealand in Pool C: Despite beating
sixth seeds Mexico by a 2-1 margin, New Zealand finished their qualifying
run, like Mexico, with two tie wins. However, Mexico boasted eight match
wins to four losses (unlike New Zealand's 7-5 tally) and therefore finished
in second place in the Pool, ahead of New Zealand, with a place in the
quarter-finals.

The full quarter-final line-up is: [1] England v [5] India; [4] Egypt v [9]
Canada; [3] Australia v [10] USA; [2] Pakistan v [6] Mexico. The ties for
the 9/16 place play-offs are: Wales v Malaysia, Scotland v Switzerland, Hong
Kong v New Zealand, and Kuwait v Netherlands.
