May 18-19, 2006. On the new USSRA National Championships Formats (see article 1 and article 2)

Dear Editor,

Great ideas on separating the age groups etc…

To add something, especially for the new Closed US Nationals Age group; for example, coming from France, to be able to participate in our age group Nationals, we need to participate in a first event, the “County” Championships, . The country is divided in X counties, and the 2 top players represent their respective counties at those nationals; also, we might have a stronger county, such as NY, PA, or MA, and instead of having only the top 2 players, 3 or 4 would be selected to play.

We would need to divide the country in “States Squash” and that would help all along to work by counties, with juniors etc…

Ben Desombre, New York

Dear Editor,

1. SOMETHING HAD TO BE DONE ABOUT THE NUMBERS ENTERING THE USSRA NATIONAL EVENT !

2. I THINK A CLOSED EVENT FOR USA CITIZENS SHOULD BE FIRST PRIORITY (All Squash countries do it).

3. A VITAL FACTOR HAS BEEN OVERLOOKED, IN THAT AMATEUR SQUASH PLAYERS ENTER THE NATIONALS FOR CAMARADERIE AS WELL AS GOOD COMPETITION. TRAVELLING ACROSS THE UNITED STATES TO AN EVENT THAT IS TOO THINLY SPREAD DOES NOT BODE WELL FOR A WEEKEND OF FUN FILLED SQUASH, WHICH THESE PLAYERS PAY FOR !

4. I WOULD SUGGEST THAT A CITY BIDDING FOR THE USSRA CLOSED CHAMPIONSHIPS SHOULD HAVE A FACILITY THAT CAN HOUSE ALL AGE GROUPS. (it is NO FUN traipsing from one club to another, and not seeing other age groups play).

Jack Halford, Connecticut
