Owens overpowers David, Joyce Quits  [Mens and Womens Draws]

By Howard Harding.

JOYCE PULLS OUT IN MACAU
England's third seed Stephanie Brind took her place in the final of the women's Macau Squash Open after her semi-final opponent Leilani Joyce, the top seed from New Zealand, withdrew from the event with an injury.

"I've been carrying a sprained ankle injury since mid-September on my right foot and twisted it again during the first game of my first round match," said the dejected world No2 from Hamilton. "I struggled with my stability last night against Wendy Maitland and have made a decision to pull out to spend the next few days in physio."

Brind, who recently jumped six places to a career-high world No4, now faces New Zealand's Carol Owens for the title after the world No3 dismissed Malaysia's world junior champion Nicol David 9-2 9-4 9-0 in the other semi-final.

In the men's event, Malaysia's Ong Beng Hee progressed comfortably towards the title he is seeded to win after a 15-11 15-11 15-11 semi-final win over Australian qualifier Dan Jenson to reach the final for the second successive year. His opponent will be sixth seed Stefan Casteleyn, the Belgian who followed his quarter-final victory over Egypt's defending champion Omar Elborolossy with a 15-10 15-11 7-15 17-15 semi-final win over seventh-seeded Frenchman Renan Lavigne.
