by Louis Daignault Semi Final reports: Martin Bronstein, and Howard Harding July 27, 2001 CANADA TO PLAY IN NINTH PLACE MATCH AT SQUASH JUNIOR WORLDS PENANG, Malaysia Jacqui Inward of Peterborough, Ont., won a five-game match to clinch Canadas 3-0 victory over Ireland Friday at the womens world junior team squash championships. Inward, Canadas top-ranked junior player, defeated Tanya Owens 5-9, 9-0, 7-9, 9-2, 9-1, to provide Canada with a 2-0 lead. July 26: Quarterfinals Canada breezed past Singapore 3-0 in the consolation draw at the womens world junior team squash championships to advance to the semifinal and keep its hopes alive for a ninth place finish. Ruchika Kumar of Oakville, Ont., Canadas number-two junior player, defeated Janice Wong 9-3, 9-5, 9-1; Anne-Christine Lajoie of Vaudreuil, Que., beat Mui-Yen Goh 9-0, 9-3, 9-3 and Kyla Grigg of Calgary defeated Pei-Wei Low 9-4, 9-0. Canadian number-one Jacqui Inward of Peterborough, Ont., was rested. |
