2001 CANADA WINS CONSOLATION ROUND FOR NINTH AT WORLD SQUASH JUNIORS - improves on 1999 finish.

PENANG, Malaysia— Canada won the finals of the 9-14 division in the World Women's Junior Squash Championships Saturday. They claim the consolation round for ninth spot.

In the consolation final for ninth place, Kyla Grigg of Calgary and Jacqui Inward of Peterborough, Ont., posted exciting wins to lead ninth-seeded Canada over number-10 the Netherlands 2-1. Grigg opened the match defeating Orlan Noom 1-9, 9-4, 9-5, 2-9, 9-6. Inward, Canada’s number-one junior, clinched match with a 9-1, 9-3, 3-9, 2-9, 9-7 thriller over Milja Dorenbos. Ruchika Kumar of Oakville, Ont., lost the meaningless third match.

Canada was 11th at the last junior worlds in 1999.
