MALAYSIA MAKE MAIDEN WORLD JUNIOR FINAL
Top seeds Malaysia will meet No 2 seeds England in the anticipated final of the Women's World Junior Team Squash Championship in Malaysia - the hosts celebrating their first appearance in the event's climax and four-times winners England their fourth successive showing. Avenging their loss in the 1999 semi-final, Malaysia triumphed 2-1 over defending champions Egypt - with last week's world individual champion Nicol David, playing in her home town of Penang, emphasising her supremacy in the world of junior women's squash by repeating the straight games victory over her nearest rival Omneya Abdel Kawy in the individual final with a 9-0 9-0 9-4 win which clinched her country's place in the final.

It was squad No 2 Tricia Chuah who put the Malaysian team ahead - overcoming a faltering start to register a 10-8 9-2 9-0 victory over Egypt's Amena El Tarabolsy. When Malaysia's celebrations had subsided, the final pairing took to the showcourt in the Penang International Sports Arena - and Egyptian team newcomer Sara Badr, just 14 years old, earned a consolation point by defeating Ooiean Teng 10-8 9-6 in the best-of-three 'dead' rubber.

In the other semi-final, England ended the trail-blazing run of the USA team, beating the squad which became the country's first ever to reach the last four of a world championships. Laura-Jane Lengthorn gave England the lead with a 9-3 9-0 9-5 win over American Amy Gross, then European Junior champion Jenny Duncalf, the England No1, put the tie (match) beyond the fifth seeds' reach when she dismissed Michelle Quibell 9-7 9-5 9-5. Alexandra Pearson became the sole US winner for the second time by beating Alison Waters 2-9 9-6 9-6 to end the tie 2-1 in England's favour. In the play-offs for the 5-8 positions, 4th seeds Australia beat India 3-0, and sixth seeds Germany beat New Zealand 2-1.
