ENGLAND IN STUNNING WORLD JUNIOR TRIUMPH
England pulled off a remarkable victory in today's (Saturday) final of the Women's World Junior Team Squash Championship in Penang, beating the hosts and top seeds Malaysia 2-1 to lift the trophy for a record fifth time. England's heroine was squad No2 Laura-Jane Lengthorn, the 17-year-old British junior champion from Chorley in Lancashire, who fought back from two games and 7-2 down in the deciding match to beat Malaysia's Tricia Chuah 4-9 2-9 9-7 9-4 9-5 to clinch the title for the second seeds in front of a stunned Malaysian crowd in the Penang International Sports Arena.

Earlier Middlesex's Alison Waters, the England third string, had put the underdogs into the lead with a 9-4 9-0 9-3 win over the hosts' Ooiean Teng, before Malaysia's Nicol David, the Penang-based 17-year-old who last week became the first person to successfully defend the world individual title, crushed Yorkshire's European Junior champion Jenny Duncalf 9-1 9-0 9-3 in the top string match to level the tie.

"My team-mates all know I never give up - and my opponents have to win nine points to beat me" said an elated Lengthorn after her historic victory - which adds to the senior women's world title England won last November, beating Australia in the final in Sheffield, and the men's junior world trophy retained by England a year ago in Italy. Defending champions Egypt beat USA 2-1 in the play-off for third place.
