QUIET FIRST DAY OF PLAY, WITH NO SEEDS IN ACTION
Host Malaysia saw five of their players lose in the first round while another six advanced, including two by bye.

All of the Singaporean juniors withdrew from the individual event, in the face of conflicts with their school examination schedules.

Meanwhile, Canadian Jacqui Inward and Guyanian Nicolette Fernandes both won their first round matches and will face off in a second round showdown of the Americas.
