BROWN UPSETS AUSSIE TEAM-MATE FOR WORLD QUARTER-FINAL SLOT
Kasey Brown became the only unseeded player to reach the last eight of the Women's World Junior Squash Championships in Malaysia today (Wednesday) when she upset her Australian team-mate Lisa Camilleri 7-9 9-3 3-9 9-4 9-6 in 46 minutes in the fourth round of the competition in Penang. Camilleri is the Australian team's No1, and was seeded to reach the quarter-finals of the individual event.

It was Brown's first victory in four meetings with her national rival, and the second successive internal upset inflicted on the Aussie squad, after No4 Georgina Davis removed No2 Amelia Pittock in the previous round.

"Nothing surprises me about Kasey," said team manager Dean Landy of the magnificent performance by his squad No3, who in January defied the seedings to reach the British Junior U-17 Open final. "She just keeps on improving. Beating Lisa was always a possibility."

In the quarter-finals, Kasey will meet local girl Tricia Chuah after the fourth seed overcame Switzerland's Manuela Zehnder 4-9 9-1 9-4 9-6 in 36 minutes in a repeat of her victory over the Swiss seed in the British Junior U-19 Open quarter-finals in January.

Germany's Kathrin Rohrmuller prevented top seed Nicol David from facing English opposition all the way through to Saturday's final when she defeated England's Alison Waters 9-7 9-10 0-9 9-6 9-4 in the longest fourth round match of the day. The 55-minute victory endorsed Rohrmuller's win over Waters in May's German Junior Open final, and takes the Munich-based 17-year-old through to a battle with Penang-based top seed Nicol David.

Defending champion David continued to delight home supporters by progressing with the swiftest win of the day - crushing England's Tina Rix 9-1 9-1 9-1 in 15 minutes.

The other quarter-final in the top half of the draw will be an all-English affair between third seed Jenny Duncalf and 5/8 seed Laura-Jane Lengthorn - after the former ended unseeded Indian Vaidehi Reddy's run in a 9-4 9-3 9-3 scoreline, and the latter beat Dane Line Hansen 9-2 9-7 9-0. The English pair's recent head-to-head record includes a win for Duncalf in April's European Junior Championships' final, and for Lengthorn in the final of the British National Junior Championships in March.
