SINGAPORE FAXES WSF
The Singaporeans, in a fax to the World Squash Federation and the Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM), have at the last moment withdrawn their players from the World Juniors Individual Draw.

The communique from Singapore cited parental objections over academic-sport conflict as the reason for their pullout.

As reported to the Malaysian Star, "They claim their players would have to miss their mid-term examinations if they play in the individual championships," said SRAM executive director Wong Ah Jit. "Their players' parents are reluctant to send them for the individual championship. "I sympathise with the players. I do hope they can come for the team event which begins on July 22. They only mentioned pulling out of the individual meet. Since none of the Singaporeans are seeded, it will not affect the draw. The matches involving their four players--Goh Mui Yen, Kor Kah Yan, Janice Wong Hui Xian and Tan Peiqi--would be walkovers. "

SINGAPOREAN COMEBACK SETBACK
Singapore, which has been intensively but quietly working behind the scenes to bring their country back to a position of squash prominence, must be very disappointed with the latest developments. It is currently expected that they will still participate in the world team event next week.
