Fourth day reports: Martin Bronstein, and Lee Keng Fatt

The Penang International Squash Centre (PISC) at Bukit Dumbar is bursting at its seams each time hometown heroine Nicol David steps into the court. The crowd is still growing and it is a good thing that the organisers have scheduled the semi-finals and final of both the individual and team events of the 9th World Junior Women's Squash Championship at the Penang International Sports Arena (Pisa) in Relau.

The PISA indoor stadium can seat 10,000. The individual semi-finals will be contested there tomorrow and the final on Saturday, while the team semi-finals are fixed for July 27 and the final on July 28.

Three thousand schoolchildren, many from Nicol's alma mater Convent Green Lane, are expected to be at PISA to root for the local players. Since day two when Nicol began her defence of the world junior title, the small gallery at Bukit Dumbar, with about 120 seats, has been packed. Seats at the adjacent courts were also occupied and the arena had to hold 500 spectators.

For today's quarter-finals, two big TV screens will be installed at the adjacent courts to allow closed circuit viewing. The Squash Centre started with four wall and four glass courts. And when Nicol became a rising star, winning the Asian senior and junior titles, and the SEA Games crown, it grew. For Sukma last year, two singles and two doubles courts, all air-conditioned, were added. Each court has a seating capacity of 120.
