MARTIN BRONSTEIN APOLOGIZES FOR INACCURATE COMMENT

OCTOBER 29

To the many Australians that wrote to me and to SquashTalk, regarding my remarks on the Australian team final -- I apologize for the inaccurate remarks that appeared on this site yesterday. (the remarks are now removed)

I have now been corrected by many people who were on site; and the offending remarks have been removed. In particular, I apologize to Rodney Martin who coached the winning squad, and I congratulate the winning team.

I would, however, like to take the opportunity to point out that I had most definitely wished to be onsite, to report in detail (and fully first person). I had even sent in my entry for the World Masters event well in advance. Unfortunately, the well documented shortcomings of the Melbourne Event to accomodate the media (documented, for example, by Squash Player Magazine,) prevented my being able to cover the event. I and other squash journalists found it to be impossible to report on the event and simply break-even on the trip.

So I apologize for the, clearly inaccurate, second-handed sources I used in preparing my story yesterday --- which in the final analysis is my own responsibility.

Martin Bronstein, London, Oct 29, 2001
