Ryding the high spot, as Canada falls

MELBOURNE, Australia—

Sixth-seeded Egypt continued its amazing run at the men’s world team squash championships Saturday defeating number-five Scotland 2-1 in the semifinals. The Egyptians are the defending champions but their top-player Ahmed Barada retired earlier this year. They’ll meet number-one Australia in Sunday’s final. The Australians with world number-one David Palmer defeated England 3-0 with the first two matches going the five-game distance.

Canada, seeded fourth played Saturday without its top player Jonathon Power of Toronto and lost to number-11 South Africa 2-1. Graham Ryding of Toronto defeated Rodney Durbach in the opener 6-9, 7-9, 9-5, 9-0, 9-7; Glenn Whittaker tied the match at 1-1 beating Shahier Razik of Toronto 9-3, 10-8, 9-8 and Kelly Patrick of Edmonton fell 9-5, 9-1, 9-2 to Adrian Hansen.

Power aggravated a hamstring injury this week and won’t play Sunday and will also skip an upcoming tournament in Macau. He expects to return to action for the YMG international tournament in Toronto November 18-23.

The Canadians face number-eight Malaysia for seventh spot.
