Second Seeds Withdraw From 50's Flight

Victor Harding and Sean McDonough, the No. 2 seeds in the 50-and-over division on the C B Richard Ellis U. S. Men's And Women's Squash Championships and finalists in this event the last time New York hosted it three years ago, have had to withdraw prior to today's start of play due to a back injury to Harding. Their Canadian compatriots Steve Hisey and John Boynton, seeded fourth, have replaced Harding and McDonough at the foot of the draw in that No. 2 seeded slot. Another one of the 13 original team entries in this flight, namely that of Hobie Porter (a William White 50's finalist a few months ago with Bill Strong) and Eliot Berry, has also defaulted due to an Achilles tendon injury to Berry.

In mid-morning action earlier today, both of the top two 40's seeds, No. 1 Rich Sheppard/Joe Fabiani and No. 2 Ed Chilton/Andrew Slater, successfully repulsed their quarter-final challengers, with Sheppard and Fabiani winning in three over Rick Wahlstedt and Soli Mehta while Chilton and Slater took theirs in four games over Scott Brehman and Todd Anderson. The women's 40's a five-team event whose round-robin format means that 10 matches will be required to produce a champion, began this morning as well, with Jen Edson and Sara Luther coming through against Sybille Witt and Jennifer Brown.
