Nicol Hangs onto World No1 Ranking

England’s world squash champion Peter
Nicol maintains his grip on the No1 position in the new March Dunlop PSA
Men’s World Rankings, announced today (1st March) by the Professional
Squash Association (PSA) – despite looking vulnerable in losing in the
final of last month’s Tournament of Champions in New York and the British
Nationals last week.

Canada’s Jonathon Power, straight
games victor over Nicol at Grand Central Station, remains at No3 in the
new list, behind Australia’s British Open champion David Palmer at No2.

France’s Thierry Lincou rises to a
career-high No4 – extending his record as the highest-ranked Frenchman
of all-time. The 25-year-old from Marseilles is one place ahead of Australia’s
Stewart Boswell – the 23-year-old from Canberra who also celebrates a
career-best ranking after reaching the Tournament of Champions’ quarter-finals
in New York.

England’s Chris Walker, at 34 the
oldest player on the PSA Tour, continues his impressive career revival
by leaping to No8 in the new list after claiming a semi-final berth in
New York – thereby becoming the second highest-ranked Englishman for the
first time since November 1998. Australia’s Anthony Ricketts, from Brisbane,
also continues his upward rise – moving to a career-best world No12 and
becoming for the first time the third-placed Australian on the world list.

Canadian Shahier Razik, at 40, and
Ian Power(brother of Jonathon), at 79, equal their career best rankings.
