Nicol Hangs onto World No1 Ranking

Peter Nicol, despite losing twice
in the past month to arch rival Jonathon Power (at the TOC and Pakistan)
and losing to Lee Beachill at the British Nationals (a non-ranking event)
received a boost by today’s (4th April) publication by the Professional
Squash Association (PSA) of the new April Dunlop PSA Men’s World Rankings
– in which the English world champion retains his No1 position.

The Canadian, Power, remains at No3
in the new list – behind Nicol, whom he beat in last month’s final of
the Pakistan Open, and Australia’s No2 David Palmer, his semi-final victim
in Lahore.

In a relatively unchanged world top-twenty
list, England’s British national champion Lee Beachill makes his debut
in the top ten, at No 10, after reaching the Pakistan Open quarter-finals
following a second round upset over Malaysia’s world No7 Ong Beng Hee.
Scotland’s Martin Heath, a semi-finalist in Lahore, moves up two places
to No 11.

In other big moves, Egypt’s Amr Shabana
made a big jump from #37 last month to 25 and Australian Paul Price continues
his free-fall down the rankings, this time to #18.
