Shahid Shifts Evans In PSA Masters Upset Pakistan's unseeded Shahid Zaman caused the biggest upset on the first day of action in the $120,000 PSA Masters Squash Championship, the richest event of the year to date in its new setting of Doha in Qatar after two years in Egypt. The 19-year-old from Quetta defeated eighth-seeded Welshman and former British Open champion David Evans 15-8 15-14 15-13 in 53 minutes. Zaman enthused to the local press, “I have been working hard on my game and the results are showing. I have added three more shots and this is helping me a lot." Zaman added, "I was playing him for the first time and this is a good win because he is a former British Open champion,” Zaman, who last fall at the Qatar Classic at the same venue, earned a great upset of Paul Price, seemed to gain energy from that prior encounter. Zaman next faces another unseeded player Amr Shabana. Evans was disappointed with his showing and with the refereeing: " I am coming back from injury and the year so far has been up and down. I am struggling to get my confidence back. The refereeing was poor but that is no excuse. I shouldn’t have let that affect me” Shabana, 22, from Cairo, fought back from a game down to beat England's 15th seed Paul Johnson 13-15, 15-7, 15-12, 15-6 in 69 minutes. Fourth seed Jonathon Power, the Canadian who won his only World Open title in 1998 on the same permanently-sited all-glass court he calls his 'favourite in the whole world', brushed aside France's Renan Lavigne 15-10, 17-15, 15-4 in 47 minutes. The 27-year-old from Montreal's first win since losing in the British Open semi-finals nine days earlier takes him through to a second round clash with 9th seed Paul Price, whom he also met in the British Open second round. Power wasn't satisfied with his play as reflected in his post-match remarks: "I am not at all happy with the way I played. It was tough settling down. I think I need a couple of more matches to find my flow. I lost my first big match only last week in the whole year and this impacted my confidence. But a few more matches and everything will be alright.” In the shortest match of the day, the Australian Paul Price, who meets Power next, dismissed Dutchman Tommy Berden 15-7, 15-8, 15-12 in 33 minutes.
