Peter Nicol Repulses
David Palmer to Earn Title
England's world No1 Peter Nicol overcame stiff resistance
from Australia's
world No3 David Palmer in today's (Saturday) final of the $120,000 Qatar
Classic in Doha to retain the PSA Super Series title he won for the first
time last year.

Nicol's 15-9, 13-15, 15-6,
13-15, 15-7 victory was the second successive
five-game battle he has survived against the Australian in the Doha event
final - and revenge for his loss to Palmer in the US Open semi-finals
in
September. The triumph, Nicol's fourth this year, also marks the world
champion's 42nd PSA Tour title in just 57 final appearances in his career
-
an impressive record of more than two wins per three finals!
"Whenever I play David, it is quite a match,"
said Nicol afterwards. "I just
got ahead from seven all in the fifth, but the margin was minimal.
"I wanted it very badly. I want to stay at number
one and this was crucial
for that," added Nicol, whose rankings threat from his great rival
Jonathon
Power was diminished when the Canadian lost in the quarter-finals.
Runner-up Palmer, whose recent run of form has included
victories in the US
Open and South African Challenge in Pretoria, said: "Peter was just
too good
- just too gutsy for me in the fifth. I am now going to have a rest before
the World Open - where I want to get my revenge."
Whilst both players will be competing in the World Open
in Belgium in
December, next stop on the PSA Tour for Nicol will be the $50,000 YMG
Capital
Classic in Toronto, beginning on 10th November.
RESULTS: Qatar Squash Classic, Doha, Qatar
Final:
[1] Peter Nicol (ENG) bt [3] David Palmer (AUS) 15-9, 13-15, 15-6, 13-15,
15-7 (92m)
