A host of strong qualifiers vied for eight spots in the women's Qatar open qualifier. Carla Khan, winner of a recent event in Montreal, led the field into the second and final day of qualifying (results below)

On the men's side (see also Kneipp's report) England's James Willstrop and Peter Barker, who contested the World Junior Championship final in India almost a year ago, both claimed places in the first round of the Qatar Squash Classic after beating fellow countrymen in the men's qualifying finals at the Khalifa Squash Complex in Doha.

Willstrop, the world junior champion from Pontefract in Yorkshire, brought the long career of Stephen Meads to end when he beat the former world No11 from Berkshire, who announced earlier that this was to be his last PSA Tour event, 15-5 15-6 15-13 in 50 minutes. In a significant upset, Essex boy Barker defeated Manchester's world No26 Nick Taylor 15-11 9-15 15-9 15-13 in 72 minutes. Willstrop is drawn to meet Canada's 16th seed Graham Ryding in the first round, whilst Barker will face Scotland's No2 seed John White.

The women's qualifying event also got underway at the Khalifa Complex, with sixteen players now through to the qualifying finals.
