Ricketts ousts Heath, Nicol faces tough round two battle with Beachill

Anthony Ricketts, another of the good young Australian pros that have been knocking on the door, stopped Martin Heath cold today in the heat of Doha. Ricketts ranked #28, showed that his ability exceeds that position, with a strong win over the exciting but sometimes erratic Heath, 17-15, 9-15, 15-4, 15-6.

Jonathon Power had an easy time advancing past Pakistan's Mansoor Zaman. Mansoor couldn't match the wonderful showing of Shahid yesterday. Power, who has been telling everyone who will listen how much he loves the courts and venue in Doha, charged ahead toward his second round meeting with Chris Walker.

“I was quite surprised to see Mansoor fold up so quickly. He has all the shots. I think I was just too good for him once I found my range of shots. I feel good playing here as I have always done well in Doha. Probably, it brings out the best in me whenever I play here,” Power said in post-match remarks, reported on the event's local website. Power advanced 15-3, 15-3, 15-7.

Peter Nicol, who finds himself in the same half of the draw as Jonathon Power for the first time in several years, will first need to get past a challenging matchup with Lee Beachill. Beachill, picked as many as a potential top-five player, has given Peter Nicol fits in recent matchups. Beachill, as expected, progressed past Irish champion Derek Ryan, 15-10, 13-15, 15-9, 15-6.
