In-Form Campion ousts Atkinson

by Sarah Fitz-Gerald, Oct 6 2001 Special to SquashTalk, © 2001

Leilani Joyce (NZ) bt Suzanne Horner (ENG) 9-3 9-7 9-5 (34 minutes)
Cassie Campion (ENG) bt Vanessa Atkinson (NL) 9-4 9-5 9-4 (30 minutes)
Stephanie Brind (ENG) bt Fiona Geaves (ENG) 9-6 3-9 9-5 2-9 9-4 (60 minutes)
Sarah Fitz-Gerald (AUS) bt Rachael Grinham (AUS) 9-2 9-1 9-0 (22 minutes)

Leilani Joyce had to fight hard to withstand the pressure from Suzanne Horner who put forth a good solid game.

Immediatley afterwards , Suzanne flew out to Melbourne to play the over 35s event at the world Masters in Melbourne.

Cassie Campion played steady squash and seemed like the player of old with her impressive performance against Holland's Vanessa Atkinson. Cassie seems to be improving with every match and seems sharper since our clashes in the World Champions Challenge of last week.

The on-going clash between Fiona Geaves and Stephanie Brind proved another tremendous battle between the two Brits with Brind the victor this time. Recently Geaves seemed to have the upper hand but Brind has turned the tables and is showing her fighting spirit.

My match with Rachael Grinham started out very interesting in the first few minutes but Rachael fell away making errors and allowed me to dictate the pace and tactics. Tomorrow I will meet Brind. Our last match was in Hong Kong and I won 3-0, but Stephanie really put in a great effort and pushed me hard during the match. I know Cassie is looking forward to her clash with Leilani and is hoping for a much improved score and performance from their last meeting in Hong Kong.
