Puertas Tops List for USA Men's Selection "Grand Prix" Points
The USSRA has released its lastest USA Men's rankings and "Grand Prix" point standings for February 1st 2005. Jamie Crombie attains the USA #1 position, on the heels of his selection-event win over Michael Puertas in Greenwich Jan 23rd, while Puertas retains overall points lead in the USA team Grand Prix points tables. Preston Quick is third. This is the second monthly rankings release under a new policy in which the USSRA is seeking to reinvigorate USA Open men's events through more widely publicized rankings, as well as providing more transparency in the USA Men's selection process. The current men's selection activity is aimed at the next Pan American Games team. The US Men's rankings are based on a formula that rewards players for play in USSRA sanctioned open-level tournament. It rewards each win and provides particular ranking rewards for head-to-head wins over higher ranking players. The Grand Prix selection points are based on a different system, which awards a player points for each round reached in specifically designated US selection events ("Grand Prix events".) The selection events so far have been in Cincinatti (November), Boston (December), and Greenwich (January). These rankings have been defined by the USSRA as only open to US citizens. The USSRA rankings are issued by the USSRA rankings committee. USSRA USA Men's Open National Rankings, Feb-1 2005:
