Puertas Still Tops List for USA Men's Selection "Grand Prix" Points

The USSRA has released its lastest USA Men's rankings and "Grand Prix" point standings for March 21st 2005. Jamie Crombie retains the USA #1 position despite a disappointing outing at the SL Green US Nationals, while Julian Illingworth moves up to fourth on the strength of his win at the Nationals. Illingworth is third in the all-important Grand Prix ratings, which will be used for the selection of the Men's Pan American Games team.

Michael Blumberg, a Harvard senior who holds dual Canadian and USA citizenship, appears in the rankings for the first time at # 16. His true ranking position is probably within the top ten.

The USSRA has continued its commitment to rapidly updated ranking, by issuing these new rankings only one day after the conclusion of the US Nationals.

The next selection event which will impact the rankings will be in Richmond Virginia, April 7-10. A playoff for the US Men's team will be held in San Diego at the newly opened squash club there on May 15 to 17th.

The US Men's rankings are based on a formula that rewards players for play in USSRA sanctioned open-level tournament. It rewards each win and provides particular ranking rewards for head-to-head wins over higher ranking players.

The Grand Prix selection points are based on a different system, which awards a player points for each round reached in specifically designated US selection events ("Grand Prix events".) The selection events so far have been in Cincinatti (November), Boston (December), and Greenwich (January).

These rankings have been defined by the USSRA as only open to US citizens. The USSRA rankings are issued by the USSRA rankings committee.
